Crana College, in Co. Donegal with architect Breege Galbraith

As part of our Architects in Schools programme, transition year students from Crana College in Co. Donegal took part in a collaborative workshop with architect Breege Galbraith. The students researched the lack of bus shelters in the local town of Buncrana. They carried out interviews and questionnaires with people in the community about their experience of waiting on the bus. They discovered that there is a great need and want from the local community for proper designed bus shelters. Students set out with the mission to design and model a bus shelter to suit the needs of everyone in the community. They identified three locations in the town and successfully designed bus shelters for each space.

“Architecture is much better than I expected it to be. The thought that goes into creations by architects is amazing. Working with a professional architect was a brilliant experience and we learned a lot of interesting new things.”

“The most interesting part of the project was finding the public so interested in our bus shelter project. It showed me something so simple yet so important. I’ve learned that architecture isn’t just about building. It’s artwork, which people spend a lot of time thinking up and creating.”
